Winter Storm Tips
Even though it may seem like we've had a pretty easy winter so far, yesterday's wind storm reminded us that we still have a lot of winter left whatever the Groundhog says.
The high winds and rain left many roads impassable with downed trees resulting in many power outages throughout the Southcoast.
While we can't change the weather, here are some tips to be prepared for the next winter storm.
Keep an eye on the weather and weather alerts so you are not caught off guard when the next storm hits.
Check your home's ability to keep out the cold, such as weatherstripping, insulation, and caulking to prevent frozen pipes and heat loss.
Make sure your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are all in working order. Replace batteries if needed. These can be life-saving during a storm.
Loss of power is always a given. Make sure you stock up on essentials and flashlights with batteries. You may want to fill your tub for toilet flushing if you have a well. Better yet, consider investing in a generator which can get you through many days without electricity.
Consider your elderly family and neighbors also. Check on them and make sure they are ok and if they need assistance with any chores, especially snow shoveling.
Winter is still with us for a couple of months, so it's always better to be prepared.
